Peter Colley

Peter Colley is a British-Canadian-American playwright and lyricist. His plays and musicals have been seen in 32 countries and 48 of the 50 states in the US, and have been translated into 12 languages. Two of Colley's plays have been made into feature films (The Mark of Cain and Illusions). He has been called “a (Canadian) national treasure” by The Record for his play The War Show, and Canada’s Master of Mayhem by the Toronto Star for his thrillers and mysteries. I’ll Be Back Before Midnight was called “the most produced Canadian play ever” by the Globe & Mail. Colley has been published by Samuel French (now Concord Theatricals), in both New York and London, and also by Macmillans, and Simon & Pierre. His musical Cagney played 540 performances in New York, mainly at the Westside Theatre. In terms of awards: he has won a Humanitas Award for screenwriting; Outer Critics, Drama Desk, Off-Broadway League nominations for Cagney, as well as winning a New American Play Award (TCG), an Edgerton Award, a New Zealand NAPTA Award, a Florida Carbonell, as well as Canada Council Awards; and was a semi-finalist for the O’Neill Awards. In TV, Colley has written for CBS, CBC, The Fox Family Channel, British ITV and WNET TV (New York).
